Be a Labour Councillor

For your personal development

For your personal development

As a councillor you will also get a lot out of the experience that could help you develop personally. You will meet new people, make friends and engage in political debate. You can get involved in a vast range of issues, from making your local area cleaner, safer and greener and finding new ways of helping solve residents' problems, to debating fundamental questions about how your town or city should develop and change into the future. And you will learn new skills and develop existing ones:

  • listening and communication skills
  • greater confidence in public speaking
  • how to negotiate and work with a wide range of different people
  • an understanding of complex and fascinating financial, social and political issues
